How We Approach Manual & Myofascial Work

1

Assessment

We assess how you move, where tissue is restricted, and what patterns may be driving your pain or stiffness.

2

Hands-On Treatment

Manual work helps open the door; movement helps keep it open. When appropriate, we pair hands-on treatment with targeted exercises so improvements in tissue quality can translate into better strength, mobility, and lasting function.

3

Movement Integration

We follow hands-on work with movement, loading, and exercise so changes in tissue quality carry over into real-life function.

4

Home Strategy

You leave with simple strategies to maintain progress between visits — not a long homework list.

Want your muscles and fascia to actually let go?

Who Benefits Most?

Chronic knots or trigger points that keep coming back
Stiff joints in the neck, back, shoulders, hips, or extremities
Fascia or tendon areas that feel thick, ropey, or like concrete
Touch-sensitive patients who need a gentler start before more powerful treatments
People with contraindications to shockwave or EMTT who still need effective manual care
Anyone who wants to combine hands-on techniques with advanced technology for best results

What Patients Commonly Notice

Less muscle tension, guarding, and protective tightness after treatment
More comfortable, fluid movement with less restriction
Trigger points and knots that release more effectively and are less likely to come right back
Improved posture, mobility, and range of motion in stiff joints and tight areas
Better awareness of how your body moves — not just feeling “worked on,” but actually moving differently
Longer-lasting results when manual therapy is paired with targeted exercise, strengthening, and better movement patterns

What Is Manual Physical Therapy?

Manual physical therapy is a specialized form of treatment that uses skilled, hands-on techniques to improve joint mobility, reduce muscle tension, and restore proper movement patterns.

At Timpanogos Physical Therapy, this may include joint mobilization, soft tissue work, and guided movement strategies, all applied with intention based on your specific needs. Rather than relying on generalized exercise alone, manual therapy allows us to directly address restrictions in the body that limit performance and cause discomfort.

This approach is especially effective for individuals experiencing limited mobility, muscle imbalances, post-injury stiffness, or ongoing pain that hasn’t fully resolved with traditional methods.

Conditions Treated with Manual Physical Therapy

Manual physical therapy in Pleasant Grove is highly effective for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Many patients come to us for help with neck and back pain, shoulder or knee injuries, and sports-related issues that interfere with daily activity or performance.

It’s also a key component of post-surgical rehabilitation and can be particularly beneficial for those dealing with chronic pain or long-standing movement restrictions. By combining hands-on treatment with targeted exercise and education, we help restore function while reducing the risk of future injury.

Myofascial Release Physical Therapy

A critical component of our approach is myofascial release physical therapy in Pleasant Grove, which focuses on the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles throughout the body.

When fascia becomes tight or restricted, it can create tension, limit mobility, and lead to compensatory movement patterns. These imbalances often contribute to persistent discomfort and reduced performance.

Through gentle, sustained pressure, myofascial release helps the tissue gradually relax and lengthen. This process improves flexibility, enhances circulation, and allows the body to move more freely and efficiently.

Incorporating myofascial release into your treatment plan allows us to address deeper layers of restriction that are often missed with more surface-level approaches.

Advanced Hands-On Techniques

Every treatment session is built around your individual needs, using a combination of advanced manual therapy techniques to support recovery and performance.

Your care may include joint mobilization to improve alignment and range of motion, soft tissue work to release tension, and assisted stretching to restore flexibility. These techniques are not applied in isolation, they are part of a structured plan that evolves as your body adapts and improves.

This level of customization ensures that your treatment remains effective at every stage of recovery.

Personalized, One-on-One Care

One of the most important factors in successful physical therapy is focused, individualized attention. At Timpanogos Physical Therapy, every session is conducted one-on-one with a trained specialist.

This allows us to closely monitor your progress, adjust treatment in real time, and address specific areas of concern as they arise. It also gives you the opportunity to receive guided instruction and feedback, helping you build better movement habits that support long-term results.

This personalized approach is what sets us apart as a trusted provider of manual physical therapy in Pleasant Grove.

Why Choose Manual Physical Therapy?

Manual therapy offers a more direct and effective way to address pain and movement limitations. Instead of working around dysfunction, it targets the source, helping your body move the way it’s supposed to.

Patients often choose this approach because it leads to faster improvements, better mobility, and longer-lasting relief. When combined with the right strengthening and movement strategies, manual physical therapy creates a strong foundation for both recovery and performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is manual physical therapy?
Manual physical therapy in Pleasant Grove uses hands-on techniques to reduce pain, improve joint mobility, and restore proper movement patterns.
What do manual physical therapy specialists do?
Manual physical therapy specialists assess how your body moves and apply targeted techniques, such as joint mobilization and soft tissue work, to improve function and relieve discomfort.
What is myofascial release physical therapy?
Myofascial release physical therapy in Pleasant Grove focuses on relieving tension within the fascia to improve flexibility, reduce pain, and restore balance throughout the body.
Is manual therapy safe?
Yes. When performed by trained professionals, manual therapy is a safe and effective treatment. Techniques are always adjusted to match your condition and comfort level.
How many sessions will I need?
Treatment plans vary depending on your condition and goals. Your therapist will create a personalized plan and adjust it as you progress.
If shockwave and EMTT are more effective, why use manual therapy at all?
Because you’re a person, not a tendon in a test tube. Some situations call for a softer, more specific touch; you may have contraindications to more powerful tools; or a gentle start builds the trust and tissue readiness for more advanced work later.
What if I don't like intense treatments?
We’ll meet you where you are. We can start with gentle manual therapy, vibration, or very low-intensity work and build from there only if you’re comfortable. You’re always in control of the intensity.
Can I request more hands-on and less machine-based treatment?
Absolutely. Part of our job is clinical judgment; the other part is listening to you. We’ll explain the pros and cons honestly and make decisions together.

Finding What's Actually Stuck

Tight muscles and restricted fascia don't always announce themselves at the source of pain. Our hands-on assessment traces the pattern and addresses the real restriction — not just the area that hurts.

  • Find out why your tissues are so guarded, tight, or sore

I’ve had an excellent experience at Timpanogos Physical Therapy. The team is professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping you feel better and reach your goals. I came in for shockwave therapy, electromagnetic therapy, and body sculpting, and every part of the process has been smooth, comfortable, and well explained. What stood out most was how attentive and encouraging the staff were. Phil always took the time to answer my questions. Kelsey really explained what each treatment was doing, and make sure I felt comfortable throughout each session. The newcomer, Ellie, makes sure the environment is welcoming, upbeat, and very professional. I’ve been really impressed with the care, the technology, and the overall experience. I would absolutely recommend Timpanogos Physical Therapy to anyone looking for a team that combines advanced treatment options with thoughtful, personalized care.

I found out about pelvic floor chairs from a friend and started looking for places that offered sessions in Utah County. I found Timpanogos PT’s offering for an initial consultation and 1st session for $49. When I met Dr Phil Richards he told me he offered the lowest rates in the valley. I checked several other places and the next best price was about double theirs. Dr. Richards and the other staff are very friendly and kind. I can tell the sessions are making a difference too.

Highly recommend this physical therapy clinic! The staff is professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about their patients. I did the EMS Body Sculpting service and loved it! They took the time to explain the service, answered all my questions, and created an experience tailored to my needs. The atmosphere is welcoming, Ellie and Phil were so great to work with and I can’t wait to go back! Great experience from start to finish!

I have come to Timpanogus PT twice so far. I had a big gap between 1st and second time. My first visit was the Pel Ch and it lasted much longer than expected. Maybe one of the best life decisions. Lol. Also Ellie and the staff both times has been literally so great to work with. It feels like they genuinely care about the wellbeing of the patients. Also, my web browser gave me a strange phone number. I have new time available and will do as much as I can here. AlSo if you can’t reach them, look them up on Instagram for phone number. But I did let them know so I’m sure they’ll probably fix it.
