Phil Richards, PT, DPT
Owner & Founder, Timpanogos Physical Therapy
Dr. Phil Richards is the kind of physical therapist who will talk fishing, family, and your favorite hobbies in the same breath as joints, nerves, and biomechanics. He grew up in Utah County after his family settled there when his dad joined the psychology faculty at BYU. Phil graduated from Spanish Fork High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Brigham Young University, and completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy at Franklin Pierce University in Goodyear, Arizona.
As a kid with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Phil spent more time in doctors’ offices than he would have liked. But those visits shaped him. Having providers who helped him stay active—on the ice, in the mountains, and outdoors with his family—planted the seed that he could do the same for others. That lived experience with pain and limitation still informs how he listens, explains, and designs each patient’s plan.
Before opening his own clinic, Phil worked with professional athletes in the Cleveland Indians organization and treated a wide range of orthopedic and sports injuries in hospitals, outpatient sports clinics, and home health. In 2017, he founded Timpanogos Physical Therapy with a simple mission: bring high-level, evidence-based care and advanced technology to a clinic that still feels like “your hometown PT.”
Known around the clinic as “Doctor Phil,” he has become a regional resource for shockwave therapy and other modern, noninvasive tools. He blends shockwave, EMTT, red light therapy, EMS body sculpting, pelvic floor chair treatments, and smart exercise programming to help patients who often feel like they’ve already “tried everything.”
Phil’s daily focus is improving the lives of both his patients and his team. Outside of work, he’s usually chasing something—bass on the lake, a puck on the ice, a campfire in the mountains, or one of his six kids. That love of an active, outdoorsy life is exactly what he’s trying to protect and restore for the people he treats.
